Actor Headshots | Creating Images That Represent You
Actor headshots serve a very specific purpose. They are not just a portrait, but a first impression used in casting decisions, often before any audition takes place.
The focus is on creating images that feel natural, clear and representative of the individual. Casting directors are not looking for heavily styled or overly dramatic images. What matters is seeing the person as they are, with an expression and presence that translates honestly on screen.
My approach is shaped by my work in cinematography. Lighting is treated with the same level of control and intention as it would be on set, creating depth, tone and a sense of presence without overpowering the subject. The aim is to produce images that feel grounded and natural, while still carrying a subtle cinematic quality.
A key part of the session is creating an environment where the subject feels comfortable. The more at ease someone is, the more their natural expression comes through. This is particularly important for actors, where authenticity is essential.
Direction is kept minimal but purposeful. Small adjustments in posture, eye line and expression are guided clearly, helping refine each shot without forcing anything unnatural. The process is designed to be straightforward and relaxed, allowing the subject to settle into the session and produce more natural, usable results.
Range can also be introduced where needed. This might include slight shifts in expression or tone to give a sense of versatility, while still keeping the images grounded and believable.
The end result is a set of headshots that feel accurate, confident and ready for use across casting platforms, agencies and professional profiles.
Alongside studio-based headshots, there is also the option to create cinematic outdoor images. While these are less controlled than studio setups, they allow actors to be seen in a more natural environment, closer to how they might appear within a scene. This can be useful for introducing a different tone or context, while still maintaining a consistent and considered visual approach.
